Snow, snow and – what’s that? More snow. It’s on the ground, it’s in the trees, it seems to be everywhere. And brrrr… It’s chilly out there – but isn’t it beautiful! It appears that winter wants to stick around a bit longer, so why not make the most of it! After all, we’re in Canada and winter comes around every year so we may as well try to love it!

What’s to love about winter? We asked some of our team members to find out what their favourite winter activities are!

Maeghan – Tasting Room Manager
I love to go up to the flume trails by Adam’s Lake or along the river’s end for a snowshoe and picnic. A little bit of fresh air paired with good company can cure away those winter blues. Everything is so beautiful when it’s covered in a blanket of snow.

Ashley – Marketing Manager
My favourite winter activity is to head to Cliffside Climbing gym in the evening with a friend. It is nice to do a low impact activity after a long, cold and dark day. I find winter is a great time to spend more one-on-one time with the special people in my life. There is less appeal to go outside, especially when it is particularly nasty. Climbing inside is a great way to chat and to get a bit of a sweat. Also, it keeps me in shape so that when spring rolls around, I can to get back outside on rock ASAP!

Galen – Wine Maker
For me, winter is a lot about enjoying and embracing seasonal foods and activities. I especially enjoy a warm meal after a day out skiing on the slopes at Sun Peaks Resort or a skate ski at Stake Lake. What’s better than a hot bowl of homemade soup on a cold winter’s day? I enjoy trying out classic recipes and experimenting with creating my own. Please sir, may I have some mo’?

Trish – Vineyard Manager
In the winter, I love to skate ski up at the Stake Lake cross country ski trails, especially on a sunny day.  There are lit trails for night skiing or with a headlamp, you can venture onto the farther loops, and you usually have the whole network to yourself.   My first night ski session this season I saw a lynx crossing the trail in the dusk.  Galen and I also saw a Moose when a group of us were night skiing back in January.  Very cool!

I’m usually always cold so I can’t say that winter is my favourite time of year, but I am trying to like it more! My favourite place to go in the winter is McConnell Lake. The snowshoers have usually cleared off a pretty good trail for me to trudge along in my boots. The snowflakes glisten in the sun as they fall making it look really magical. The hike is a good length too – not too long but not too short. I feel like I got out and did something active!

If I’m not in an outdoorsy mood, I love going to local coffee shops for a latte! My favourite places to go right now are Red Beard (for their s’mores cookies!), Café Motivo (treats, treats, treats!) or The Art We Are for some hot homemade soup!

But wait, there’s more…
